What is PRP for Hair Loss?

Platelet-rich plasma applied to the scalp is the most studied regenerative protocol for early-stage hair loss. Like our skin PRP treatment, it uses your own blood — drawn, centrifuged, and reapplied — to deliver concentrated growth factors directly to the dermal papilla cells that control hair follicle activity.

It is fully autologous, which means there is no allergy risk and no imported regenerative product. It is the regenerative protocol we recommend most often to clients who want a fully home-grown option, or who have responded well to PRP for skin.

How it works

After a standard blood draw, the platelet-rich fraction is isolated and injected into the scalp at the dermal papilla level using fine needles. The growth factors prompt the dermal papilla cells to keep more follicles in the active growth phase, slow miniaturisation, and improve perfusion to the follicle base.

Who it's for

Early- to mid-stage thinning, post-pregnancy shedding, and androgenetic loss in clients who prefer an autologous option. PRP for hair is also frequently used alongside finasteride or minoxidil — it does not interfere with either, and the combination outperforms any single intervention.

The Lumara protocol

We typically recommend a three- to four-session course at four-week intervals, then maintenance every six months. We document baseline density and re-image at the four-month mark.

Aftercare

Mild scalp tenderness for a few hours. Avoid washing the hair for 24 hours. Avoid alcohol and strenuous exercise for 48 hours.

Frequently asked

PRP for Hair Loss, in plain English.

PRP or exosomes — which is better?

Honest answer: it depends on you. Some clients respond better to PRP, some to exosomes, and many do best on a combined protocol. The single largest variable is starting early — both work meaningfully better when there is still active follicle structure to protect.

Can I combine this with minoxidil or finasteride?

Yes. PRP works synergistically with both. We will discuss your full hair-loss strategy at consultation rather than treating PRP as a stand-alone solution.
