What are anti-wrinkle injections?
Botulinum toxin — Botox, Bocouture, Azzalure, depending on the day's stock — temporarily relaxes the targeted facial muscles that produce dynamic lines. Used carefully, on the right face, it gives the appearance of a well-rested expression without changing the face. Used badly, it produces the frozen, over-treated look you can spot a mile away.
We use it carefully. The clients we keep are the ones who want their face to read as their face.
How it works
The injection blocks the nerve signal to specific muscles, weakening or relaxing them for the three-to-four-month duration of the toxin's action. Because the lines that show on the surface are produced by the underlying movement, weakening that movement softens the line. Where the line has become etched into the skin (a static line, present at rest), Botox alone will only soften — not erase — it; we will discuss combining it with regenerative work where appropriate.
Who it's for
Most adults with concerns about dynamic lines on the upper face. Less appropriate for clients who want to use it to chase a face that isn't theirs, or to compensate for problems that have other underlying causes.
The Lumara protocol
We always start a new client conservatively. The risk in this category is overdoing it — and once the muscle is weak, no one can put movement back until the toxin wears off three to four months later. You can always come back at the two-week review for a top-up; we cannot easily un-inject.
Aftercare
No bending forward, lying down, exercising or rubbing the area for four hours. No saunas or hot yoga for 24 hours. Don't be alarmed if you don't see effect for ten to fourteen days — that's the normal onset window.
Frequently asked
Anti-Wrinkle Injections, in plain English.
Will it look obvious?
Not if it's done well. Done well, no one notices anything except that you look less tired.
What's the difference between Botox, Bocouture and Azzalure?
Different brands of botulinum toxin type A. Slight differences in onset and diffusion; in trained hands, the clinical results are functionally similar. We use whichever is most appropriate for the area being treated.
I had Botox elsewhere and look strange. Can you fix it?
If the issue is over-treatment, we can't reverse the toxin — it has to wear off, which takes three to four months. We can sometimes balance an asymmetry with careful additional placement. We won't do that without seeing you in person.
Can I have this if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
No.
