What is lip filler?
Hyaluronic acid filler placed in the lip in small volumes — typically half a millilitre to a millilitre — to restore shape, definition and hydration. Done well, the result is lips that look like your own, slightly more defined and hydrated. Done badly, the result is the over-filled look that has come to dominate Instagram aesthetics. We do the first.
How it works
The filler is placed via fine needle into the body of the lip, along the vermilion border, and in the cupid's bow as appropriate to the lip's natural shape and what you've asked for. The hyaluronic acid integrates with the surrounding tissue, holds water, and provides definition for nine to twelve months.
Who it's for
Adults whose lips have lost shape with age, or who have always had lips they wished were a touch more defined. We treat lips conservatively. We will not do "Russian lip", we will not over-fill, and we will not produce the look that the wrong kind of injectables clinic specialises in.
The Lumara protocol
Almost every new lip client starts with half a millilitre, sometimes less. You can always have more. You cannot easily have less.
Top-ups are decided at the two-week mark — not at the consultation, not on the day. We want to see the lip settled before agreeing to a second pass.
Aftercare
Mild swelling for 24–48 hours; small bruising possible. Avoid pressure, saunas, and active exercise for 48 hours. Avoid the dentist for two weeks — manipulation of the upper lip can disturb the filler.
Frequently asked
Lip Filler, in plain English.
Will it look obvious?
If we do half a millilitre well, no. If you ask for more than your lip can carry, yes. We discuss this at consultation; we will say no when no is the right answer.
How long does it last?
Typically 9–12 months. The lip is a high-movement area and metabolises filler faster than other places.
Can it be dissolved?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid is fully reversible with hyaluronidase.
